carte_france.gifThe town of Souillac is located in the South West of France, Midi-Pyrénées region, in the North-West of the department of Lot, some 64 kilometers from its main town Cahors, and 178 kilometers from Toulouse.

It is also close to two other departments : the Corrèze and the Dordogne, and two administrative regions : the Limousin and Aquitaine.

Thanks to this privileged position between the Haut Quercy and the Perigord Noir, Souillac is an ideal base to discover these two marvellous regions throught which winds the Dordogne river…carte_lot.gif

Souillac offers a natural and traditional welcome. Open and cordial the town places great emphasis on treating all its visitors as friends. Whilst jealously guarding its unique ambiance, the Lot delights in welcoming visitors to share in its natural beauty.

Close to Souillac are numerous pre-historic sites with the underground cave at Lascaux, Lacave, Les Eyzies, Presque, Cougnac and Pechmerle. There are the famous and historic sites of Rocamadour, Castelnau, Martel and the innumerable castle and chateaux of the Dordogne valley, not forgetting the medieval jewel that is the town of Sarlat. There are also the many spectaculary picturesque villages such as Autoire and Carennac, and all the other places that have made the slogan of the Lot « A surprise around every corner ».

The present population comprises of 3500 inhabitants, but this number has varied greatly throughout Souillac’s history.
